The time has come to winterise your pool: follow our advice.

When should you winterise your pool?

With the arrival of autumn, temperatures start to drop, and with it comes a crucial moment in pool maintenance. It is essential to prepare it properly to ensure that we can enjoy it from day one next summer.

It is important to note that you should only winterise your pool when the water temperature is below 15 degrees Celsius (generally between October and November).

Why is the wintering phase necessary?

The main reason for winterising the pool is to make the most of the water and to avoid emptying and then refilling it in the summer. In this way, we save water both during the winter and during the spring refurbishment. This is not only good for the environment but also for our wallet.

In addition, wintering the pool not only prevents dirt and algae growth but also protects it from freezing and prevents water evaporation.

What will we need?

Before proceeding, make sure you have all the necessary items.

With these in hand, your pool will be ready for winter in seven simple steps.

Steps to follow

  • Remove all external elements from the pool, such as ladders, floating dosing devices or thermometers. Remember to clean and dry the different elements before storing them.
  • Proceed to clean the pool, walls, bottom and waterline.
  • The water level must be approximately 5 centimetres below the skimmer. First, disconnect the filtration system from the mains to drain the pool water. Then, set the valve to drain mode and reconnect the filtration system to the mains. Removing the skimmer is unnecessary; remove the hoses and store them in a dry place.
  • Check that the pH levels are between 7.2 and 7.6.
  • Add the winter concentrate liquid. Remember to use 1 litre per 50 m3 of water. Mix the product in a bucket of water before pouring it into the pool.
  • Introduce a floating element, such as a hibernation float or inflatable cushion, to prevent the cover from being in contact with the water. This element will help prevent the water from freezing when temperatures drop, which could damage the liner or steel structure.
  • Fit and adjust the winter cover, which takes only 10 minutes.

Conclusion

With these simple steps, your pool will be ready to rest during the winter, and it will be much quicker to prepare it for the new bathing season.
