Organizing a pool party is a great plan for summer, but heavier use also means more dirt, higher disinfectant consumption, and more work for the filtration system. Simple preparation before the event and a check afterward will help keep the water clean and safe.
Before the party
Check the water
Test the pH and disinfectant level. The water should be clear, with no algae, foam, or strong odors. Avoid carrying out intensive treatments just before guests arrive, and always follow the product instructions.
Clean the pool
Remove leaves and insects, clean the waterline, and vacuum the pool floor. Also empty the skimmer baskets to improve circulation.
Check the filtration system
Make sure the pump and filter are working properly, with no leaks, unusual noises, or blockages. With more swimmers, it may be necessary to increase filtration time.
Prepare a safe area
Check ladders, handrails, lighting, and surrounding surfaces. Keep pool chemicals out of guests’ reach and avoid using glassware near the water.
If children are present, there should always be active adult supervision. Floats and armbands are not a substitute for supervision.
During the party
A few simple measures can help reduce dirt:
- Shower before swimming.
- Keep food and drinks away from the pool edge.
- Use durable, non-breakable cups.
- Keep towels, toys, and footwear tidy to prevent trips and falls.
- Designate an adult to supervise children.
After the party
Remove debris
Take out toys and inflatables, and remove leaves, hair, food scraps, and other debris. Empty the skimmers and check the pump strainer basket.
Increase filtration time
Let the system run for as long as necessary so the water can circulate and the filter can trap the accumulated particles.
Test the water again
The next day, check the pH and disinfectant levels. Adjust only the parameters that need it, and follow the recommended waiting time before swimming again.
It is also a good idea to clean the waterline, brush the walls, and vacuum the pool floor.
Warning signs
Avoid swimming if the water is cloudy or green, there is persistent foam, the bottom of the pool is not visible, or the filtration system has an abnormal flow rate.
Good preparation makes all the difference
Checking the water, cleaning the pool, and reviewing safety measures before the party allows everyone to enjoy themselves with greater peace of mind. Afterward, a quick clean, extra filtration, and another water test will help the pool return to its usual condition quickly.
