Did you know that a few simple actions can reduce water consumption?

Enjoying the pool is one of the great pleasures of good weather. However, maintaining it can involve high water consumption if not managed correctly.
The good news is that, with a few simple and responsible practices, it is possible to take care of it without wasting resources.

Maintain the right water level

One of the simplest—and most effective—ways to avoid wasting water is to maintain the right fill level.

An inadequate water level can cause unnecessary splashing, especially when there are children at home who enjoy diving into the pool. It also affects the proper functioning of the filtration system and can compromise the structure of the pool.

The basic rule?
If your pool has a skimmer, the water level should reach approximately halfway up the skimmer opening. Otherwise, leave between 5 and 7 centimeters between the water surface and the top edge of the pool.
This ensures efficient filtration, prevents unnecessary water loss, and extends the lifespan of your installation.

Detect and repair possible leaks

Although they are not always visible, leaks can cause the loss of hundreds of litres of water per day, affecting both the water level and its chemical balance.

To prevent this, check that the filtration system, valves and connections are correctly installed and adjusted. An inspection at the beginning of the season, and another periodic one, can save you from surprises.

What if the leak is in the liner?
Don’t worry. At GRE, we have specific repair kits to fix it quickly and easily, without having to empty the pool.

Optimise filter washing and choose more efficient systems

Washing the filtration system is one of the most frequent maintenance tasks, but it is also a significant source of water consumption. Avoiding prolonged or unnecessary washing is key.

A practical solution is to install a pressure gauge, which will indicate when backwashing is really necessary, avoiding routine washing.

In addition, the type of filter also makes a difference:

Cartridge filters: reduce water consumption by up to 90% per wash, compared to sand filters.
Aqualoon filters: their filter balls need less frequent cleaning, allowing for greater savings and longer system life.

Choosing the right filtration system is also a good decision for saving money.

We explain it all in this blog article.

Apply the right water treatment

Well-treated water is not only healthier, but also helps to preserve it for longer.
When water is unbalanced, it deteriorates more quickly, which may force you to carry out partial replacements or early emptying.

Using properly dosed chemicals or salt electrolysis systems keeps the water clean, stable and in optimal condition throughout the season.

In addition, chemical imbalance can lead to increased evaporation, especially on hotter days, which means more frequent refilling.

Get an isothermic cover

Using a cover during the months of heaviest use—especially in summer—is one of the most effective ways to prevent water loss.

An isothermic cover can reduce evaporation by up to 50% during the high season (around 4 months), keep the water cleaner, maintain the temperature better and reduce the need for chemicals.

A simple gesture with a direct impact on your savings.

Don’t forget about your pool in winter

Responsible pool care also includes the off-season.
Applying a winterising treatment with the right products keeps the water in good condition during the cold months, avoiding the need to empty it at the start of the next season.

In addition, if you cover your pool during this period, you can reduce evaporation by up to 95%, which protects the water and makes it much quicker and cleaner to start up again when the heat returns.

Saving water is possible with small gestures

Keeping your pool in good condition does not have to involve excessive consumption. With simple actions — such as checking the water level, reviewing the filtration system, applying a good treatment or covering the pool — you can enjoy the summer more efficiently and responsibly.

Take care of your pool, save water, and make the most of every splash.
