World Environment Day: How can we help?

World Environment Day has been celebrated every June 5 since 1974.

Its primary mission is to make all members of our society aware of the importance of caring for and respecting our natural environment. It is a date that encourages governments, companies, and citizens to reflect on how we produce, consume, and could do so more sustainably, with a smaller ecological footprint.

In this post, we will give you all the tips and keys to reduce the ecological impact of your pool. An environmentally friendly alternative is indeed possible. Read on to learn more!

World Environment Day 2020: Biodiversity

This day has been celebrated for 46 years. It is a nature movement whose theme in 2020 revolves around biodiversity (biological diversity) or the variety of living things on Earth.

The emergence of COVID-19 has clearly demonstrated how the destruction we inflict on biodiversity creates the optimal conditions for pathogens and viruses to proliferate.

Nature connects everything and everyone; by upsetting its balance, we harm our existence.

Boric-free chlorine: your ally for a more sustainable pool

GRE will provide you with the information you need to enjoy your pool while respecting the natural environment and help continue celebrating World Environment Day.

Boric acid has existed since time immemorial. In Ancient Greece, they used it to make fabrics fireproof. Later, it was applied in other fields as an antiseptic (present in talcum powder and foot antiperspirants), and as an ingredient in insecticides and cosmetics, among other products. However, ideally, chemicals that carry this element should do so in lesser amounts as they could be toxic.

Boric-free chlorine is an excellent option for your pool because it allows you to enjoy cleaner, healthier water for extended periods. This option achieves a slower and more homogeneous dissolution of the chlorine tablet and thus controlled, continuous, and better-distributed release of the chlorine. On the other hand, this product maintains a free chlorination rate (recommended 1 mg/l) for a proper, preventive, and continuous treatment of the water.

Also, its additives are not harmful to health and leave no residues in the water.

If you choose this water treatment option for your pool, which GRE offers in a 250-gram tablet format, we recommend that you perform permanent chlorination.

As for the instructions on how to use, we recommend the following:

  • Perform initial treatment, for which you should add 15 g of granulated shock chlorine or 1 tablet of shock chlorine for every m³ of water. After 2 hours, correct the pH of the water to between 7.2 and 7.6 using a pH reducer or booster.
  • Perform maintenance treatment; with the pH of the water corrected, place a slow chlorine compact tablet into the skimmer baskets for every 30 m³ of water every 7-10 days. These recommended doses are meant to guide you only; you can adjust them according to the characteristics of each pool and climate, among other things.

They help extend the filtration equipment’s service life by facilitating the treatment plant’s work, using about 20% less water to wash the filters.

  • Use of LED lighting

LEDs allow for up to 90% reduction in electric power consumption, substantially extending the service life of lights and projectors that use them.

  • Solar heating

It is a heating system that allows one to control and raise the water temperature of above-ground pools using solar energy.

  • Solar shower

Solar showers use solar energy instead of electricity to heat water. You can install them in the garden, on the terrace, or near the pool, needing only to connect them to a water source.
